TMJ Massage Testimonials

Such a great place! Cayla has helped me immensely with my tmj issues and upper back/neck pain. Even after just a few appointments, she has me feeling so much better! Her kind nature and healing hands make it such an enjoyable and relaxing experience while also getting to the root of the problem in helping my jaw & back pain. The whole place has a calm and inviting atmosphere. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone I know!

I am so appreciative of Cayla! Not only has she helped tremendously with my TMJ pain, but she has also given me recommendations of products to use to treat the dry skin on my face after a facial that have made a great difference.

TMJ Massage FAQs

What is buccal TMJ massage?

Buccal TMJ massage is a focused treatment for the muscles that control your jaw. Your therapist works on the outside of your face and neck, then gently inside the mouth along the cheek to reach the masseter and pterygoid muscles. Those deep jaw muscles are hard to reach any other way, which is why this technique often brings relief when regular massage hasn’t.

Who can benefit from TMJ massage?

TMJ massage is a good fit if you clench or grind your teeth, wake up with a sore or tight jaw, or get tension headaches that start in your jaw, temples or neck. It is meant to relieve muscle tension, not replace care from your dentist or doctor. If you haven’t had your jaw evaluated, we recommend checking with them too.

Will my therapist work inside my mouth?

Yes, part of the session is done inside the mouth, because that’s the only way to reach the deepest jaw muscles. Your therapist wears gloves for this part of the session. If you’d rather your therapist work only on the outside of your face and neck, just say so and they will adjust.

How many sessions will I need?

Many clients feel a difference after their first session. If your jaw tension has built up over months or years, a short series of appointments usually brings longer-lasting relief. Your therapist will suggest a schedule based on how your jaw responds.

Who performs TMJ massage at Integrated Bodywork Clinic?

Owner Darla Schatz has extensive training in TMJ massage and has practiced massage therapy for 26 years. Cayla French also lists TMJ pain relief as one of her favorite techniques, and both of them are named in our TMJ reviews.

Does TMJ massage hurt?

Tight jaw muscles can feel tender when they’re first worked on, so you may feel firm pressure in a few spots. It should never be more than you can comfortably handle. Your therapist will check in with you throughout and adjust the pressure as you go.
